Calder Valley Clean Up
On Friday the 1st of July, Lauren caught up with Trevor Bannister, from Calder Valley Clean Up for Workplace of the Day.
The beautiful Calder Valley was devastated by flooding in December 2015, thousands of people were affected and the losses were enormous.
In places the canal and river became one and swept torrents of mud, silt and debris downstream. Trees were uprooted, buildings damaged or destroyed and people’s hard-earned possessions were swept away. The response from near and far has been overwhelming and amazing progress has been made.
The valley bottom is strewn with debris, it’s caught up in trees and bushes, along the river-bank and canal towpath, in the fields and woodlands. Bit by bit it’s being cleared but it’s a big task with work to do all the way from Todmorden to Brighouse.
This group has been set up for all those who care about the valley and want to help or offer support in this major undertaking.
